Apex provided the hydraulics system required for this subsea pin removal
Customer Requirement
Apex was approached by a customer who needed to remove pins which were stuck within a subsea oil & gas installation located deep underwater on the sea bed. The customer had made attempts to correct the problem without success but had now developed a solution and wanted our help to carry it out.
Apex provided the hydraulics system required for this subsea pin removal.
Four jacking tools removed the old pins located within the sub-sea equipment.
Each jacking tool consisted of two hydraulic cylinders, working at 700 BAR producing 25 tons force. All components were to be machined from stainless steel.
Installation Location
This was a tricky and complicated installation with jacking tools being used by underwater divers and controls located on a nearby support boat.

Design specification:
Special internal details allow both advance and retract ports to remain at the top of the cylinder, well away from the pin which required removing.
The cylinders needed to be painted for sub-sea use and also to protect against corrosion.
Apex’s engineering design team set to work and with a three week turnaround from initial enquiry, it knew it had to move quickly.
A successful job completed by Apex:
Apex was able to deliver the required hydraulics to complete the job. And once again, it used a flexible and innovative approach to a problem encountered by one of its customers.
