As Seen on TV – The Maersk Peregrino
The team here at Apex Hydraulics carried out a project on the Maersk Peregrino, when the client requested a bespoke design and manufacture service to produce hydraulic cylinders capable of withstanding some of the toughest conditions in the world.
This impressive vessel was featured in season 5 of the Discovery Channel’s Mighty Ships, which charted the crew’s efforts to carry out the billion dollar makeover that would transform this former super tanker into a stationary oil offloading unit. The final stages of the project including maneuvering the vessel into its final position over a network of feeder pipes.
Maersk Peregrino is an enormous specimen, weighing in at over 300,000 tons and with a sub-aquatic reach of over 100 feet that makes it a perfect vessel for offshore oil production.
Apex were proud to secure a contract to design and supply hydraulic cylinders to exacting specifications. This equipment was built to withstand frequent exposure to sea water in its location on the open deck of the vessel, which required a specially developed Apex coating to prevent corrosion.
