Hydraulic Equipment: Why is Maintenance Essential?
Here at Apex Hydraulics we were thrilled to be involved in a large scale development project on the MPI Discovery, which aimed to improve the energy efficiency of this purpose-built offshore vessel.
The design of the Discovery was built upon the successes of its MPI predecessors and with the help of enhanced lifting capacity, increased power and extra space on deck it is now capable of installing the foundations and components of more wind turbines than any other vessel.
Weighing in at a gross tonnage of 19,533 and over 130m in length, the Discovery was recently featured in an episode of the Discovery Channel’s Mighty Ships and is currently in the Baltic Sea, making its way towards the Karehamn wind farm.
Thanks to the work that has been carried out by a multi-disciplinary team of experts (including Apex of course!) the Discovery now benefits from improved environmental operability that has been achieved without sacrificing the perfect balance of innovative technology that makes this vessel unique.
We were called upon to supply a number of custom manufactured hydraulic cylinders, complete with our very own Apex coating to ensure that they were tough enough to withstand the gruelling conditions of an off-shore rig.
